Death come true reddit4/11/2023 "The Love Interest" - Was he curious about her? If he was, why didn't he just attend the sleep study group and watch her there instead of stalking her outside of the place? Was it an immediate attraction or curiosity to see her outside of the lab? And why did Sarah immediately assume he was trying to get with her instead of thinking he was interested in her as a lab experiment or something (since he was working there) instead? Why a romantic partner? Was it to imply something? Sarah - Why is the old dude leading the studies so interested in Sarah when all of the other guys are showing the same dream? What makes her special compared to the others? She doesn't seem to show any new signs compared to the others, or anything extraordinary that he can see. So naturally we can come to the conclusion she just dropped out, but Sarah doesn't think so? For some reason? Makes implication things are happening but never talked about again? She wasn't even there for that long either, she seems to be new based on the questions she asks that implies she's a newbie and then the next day she's gone. None of that is explained, Emily never comes back up and it's unknown to the audience for the rest of the movie. Was there something darker happening here? Were these people actually the bad guys or was she taken away? No. The Mother - Why was she avoiding her? Was there some abusive thing going on between them? Was her mother emotionally or physically abusive? Was she distancing herself to protect her mother? None of that is explained, despite this being a simple detail that pushes the entire plot forward into her going into the sleep study in the first place and starting things off.Įmily - When Emily wasn't at the study session and Sarah asked about it, one of the workers said "it's common for people to stop coming" or something along those lines, but she kept persisting and asking where Emily was. Here's some examples, not all of them will be linear because the movie is a mindfuck: There were such simple details that were never covered for some reason and just left you completely confused for the rest of the movie and asking what the fuck am i watching. I watched this movie about a week ago with some of my family. And honestly, we collectively all hated it, but I think I hated on it the most. There were so many questioned left unanswered, and I don't think it was for the purpose of you "coming up with your own ideas" I truly believe it was lazy writing or they just left everything to an AI generator. She leaves the study and Jeremy chases after her, finds her, takes her home, she rests, they have sex, she goes to hospital, she has scans, she leaves the hospital, how long have they been gone? This is insanity if it's only been a couple of hours. The study starts monday - what does she do in the meantime? Jump forward. Entirely possible that it's just film-making decisions, but her life reminds me of 'dream time' where like.we're just skipping entire days in-between? Her friend will see if she can stay over, but what's she going to do tonight? Who knows, we just sort of jump forward. The streets she cycles through are weirdly empty, the technology seems to vary from iPhones to 70s computers, her life in general is really fragmented. Vague speculation: everything is disjointed. Jeremy calls her 'really mature for her age' - a sort of classic line from a creepy dude talking to a younger girl, but easily a cheeky hint that she may actually be older than she seems. Her mother narrowly missing her and trying to call but not getting an answer - basically self explanatory. One girl stops attending and no questions are asked because people do that all the time - presumably she woke up. That stood out to me because it's such a *weird* question, who frequently participates in sleep studies like it's a hobby? If you believe the "sleep study" is actually an attempt to communicate with people in comas then it would make a bit more sense - like they've attempted this with him many times and not been successful. One of the guys in the sleep study asks if it's their "first" sleep study. Throwing some thoughts out here for anyone else who ends up on this thread after watching the movie.
